DUNDON KICKS 10 IN SPOTSWOOD VICTORY
By JESS MACKEY
Coming off a bye round for all teams, the Victoria University Polytechnic WRFL Senior Women’s competition was back in action this week.
Laverton managed to overcome Werribee Centrals by 55 points.
It was an important victory for the Magpies, who find themselves entrenched in the top four and look like being a finals contender.
The first quarter was tight, as expected, however the Magpies came out firing in the second quarter kicking four goals to none. Taquila Angel kicked four goals and gave them a real head-start, as Laverton kept the ball in their forwards half for the majority of the match.
North Sunshine were defeated by Point Cook Centrals in a low scoring affair. Each side managed to score just one goal each, but Point Cook Centrals were able to just scrape through with the win by 3 points.
Sharni Currie scored Point Cook Centrals’ only goal, and the Roadrunners’ only goal came from Jessica Mudie. North Sunshine didn’t get on the board until the final quarter, and despite a late fightback it was too little too late.
West Footscray’s recent winning streak came to an end this week, as they were taken down by 44-points by Caroline Springs. The Lakers had five individual goal-kickers, led by Alexandra Fato who booted four goals.
The second quarter was competitive as West Footscray scored one goal, and kept Caroline Springs scoreless. However, the Lakers really ran over the top of them in the second half as they kicked four goals to one.
Spotswood also scored a big win over Tarneit. Spotswood had 39 scoring shots to five for the match, winning by 109 points.
The final score was 17.22. (124) to 2.3. (15).
Lauren Dundon kicked 10 goals in the victory. She has kicked 35 goals this season.
