EAGLES TAKE AIM

The Yarraville Seddon Eagles Senior Women’s team is hoping to take a “big scalp” in the second half of the Victoria University Polytechnic Division 1 competition.

In the lead-up to their Round 10 clash with Werribee Centrals, Eagles coach Peter Lazzaro said his team was enjoying the challenge of playing against the best of the west and hoped that in the remaining six games of the season, his team can upset a team in the top four.

“Division 1 has been challenging because every week we come up against a quality team, so we must play four competitive quarters of footy every week, which is hard to sustain” he said.

“But this has been a very good learning curve for the girls, as they are seeing what is required to be competitive in Division 1.

“Our goals for the remainder of the season are to firstly enjoy playing footy together, continue to develop and to take a big scalp. We’ve been so close a few times this season. I think the girls deserve a big win over a top side.”

The Eagles have won two games in 2022, defeating Hoppers Crossing twice, with their most recent win staged under lights at Yarraville Oval – a first for the club.

Lazzaro hoped their next win would be against Werribee Centrals tomorrow, which will also be a special occasion for the club.

Senior Men’s and Women’s players will be wearing a specially designed jumper as part of NAIDOC Week.

“We’re really looking forward to the challenge of playing Werribee Centrals this weekend. Another game under lights on Saturday night after the Senior Men’s game,” Lazzaro said.

“Werribee Centrals are another quality team, but it’s Past Players Day, Premiership reunions and NAIDOC round, so we will be wearing indigenous jumpers for the first time, so the atmosphere is going to be fantastic.”

The Yarraville Seddon Eagles take on Werribee Centrals at Yarraville Oval at 4.45pm tomorrow.
