ENDRES WINS 2018 SEN MVP AWARD

HOPPERS Crossing prized recruit Chris Endres has been voted as the Western Region Football League Division 1 SEN Most Valuable Player for 2018.

Endres, who joined the Warriors this season, was voted by the Division 1 coaches as the MVP this season, capping off an impressive year at Hogans Road Reserve.

Endres polled 24 votes, eight ahead of last year’s winner, Chris Stewart from Deer Park.

Rounding out the top three was leading goal kicker Patrick Rose from Altona on 15 votes.

Now in its eighth year the SEN Most Valuable Player Award recognises the WRFL’s best overall senior player in the Division 1 competition.

Using the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 system, coaches voted for the players that were not necessarily the ‘best player,’ but one who embodies leadership, versatility, ability to play under pressure, skill and courage, respect for all umpires and overall value to their team.

Twenty-eight players from across all 10 Division 1 clubs were nominated for the award.

Endres has had a fantastic season, in his 19 games he was named in the best on 11 occasions.

Six of the Division 1 coaches gave Endres votes, two of which, have him the full five votes.

The talented footballer, who transferred to the Warriors from the Kilcunda Bass Football Club, said he was privileged to have won the award.

“There are some really good footballers in this league and some good footballers who have previously won this award, so I feel privileged,” he said.

Endres said he almost quit footy at the end of last season, saying he wasn’t enjoying the game.

“I felt like it was more of a chore, so I didn’t want to play, but then I decided to come across and I’ve really enjoyed my footy again.”

This Sunday, Hoppers Crossing will take on Spotswood in the Division 1 Semi Final on Sunday at Avalon Airport Oval at 2.15pm.
