EVERITT SIGNS ON WITH THE EAGLES
The Yarraville Seddon Eagles have begun planning for 2019, with the club announcing the signing of former AFL player Andrejs Everitt.
Everitt, who played with the Western Bulldogs, Sydney and Carlton, is set to pull on the Eagles jumper next season.
The 29-year-old has been playing with Somerville in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League, but will make the move to the WRFL.
Everitt said travelling to and from Mornington each week was beginning to take its toll, saying he wanted to find a club closer to home.
“I approached the President Neil (Grieves) and had a chat with him about moving back to the west and a few weeks went by and he gave me a call and it was all done. I am pretty stoked to be a part of this team,” he told the WRFL.
“I have been living in Yarraville on and off for about 10 years. I got my first house here back when I was playing with the Bulldogs and have loved the west ever since. I have always kept an interest in the WRFL.
“Once I finished up with the AFL I decided to go back where I played local football on the Mornington Peninsula.
“Twenty-five hours a week travelling and training and being the coach there was a bit too full on, so there is a number of a reasons I chose to leave the Mornington Peninsula league.
“I think it would be a good challenge (to play with Yarraville Seddon).
“The club is going in a pretty good direction, so I am pretty excited to be working with Vinnie (Turcinovich) and striving to get this club up to division 1”
Part of Everitt’s role with the club will be to work with their juniors.
He said he has learnt a lot from his time in the AFL and wanted to share his knowledge with the next generation.
“I have enjoyed hanging out with the kids and training them and teaching them,” Everitt said.
“If you don’t start with a good base in terms of your skill and preparation you aren’t going to make it as an elite athlete, not that everyone wants to be an elite athlete, but the kids that do want to I will be able to teach them some things to put in place.
“Hopefully I can bring some experience, excitement and knowledge to what is a pretty young team. I am looking forward to just getting out there and training and meeting everyone.”
