FALCONS FLY HIGH AGAINST PARKSIDE

By CONNOR PAIN

It started as a clash between first and second. It ended with Wyndhamvale the clear competition favourites following their 81-point thumping of Parkside that sees the Falcons sit top of the Division 2 ladder after four rounds.

The clash started tight, but Wyndhamvale’s second major signaled the onslaught that only stopped after the final siren sounded.

The Falcons kicked six goals in the first quarter and didn’t let their foot off the pedal. They extended their half time lead to 69-points.

The hosts could do little to stop the rampaging Wyndhamvale, the midfielders and forwards for the victors were in sync all day as Jack Tessari and Joel Russell both added four goals.

The 18.16. (132) to 6.7. (43) win gives the Falcons the competition’s best percentage by over 100 points to the next best (Yarraville at 133.2) ahead of their clash with Point Cook Centrals in Round 5.

Parkside will lick their wounds and look to get back to winning ways against the Eagles.

Point Cook Centrals needed two last quarter goals to come from behind and steal a 7.11. (53) to 7.8. (50) win from North Footscray.

The visitors started strongly and led by 10 after the first term, but couldn’t maintain their lead and trailed at half and three-quarter time.

The Devils had their chances to hold, on but managed to score just four behinds in the final quarter.

Matthew Turner’s three goals and best on ground performance led the Centrals who now sit in second place while North Footscray fall to 1-3 and remain in sixth position. They’ll face Newport this week.

Newport sit a game ahead of the chasing pack in fourth following its 20-point victory against Manor Lakes.

The contest was hot, as Newport led by just four points at half time, but kicked four goals in the third to break the game open.

The win was their third triumph in 2019 while the Storm will rue a chance gone begging ahead of their Round 5 clash with West Footscray.

Andrejs Everitt’s six majors led Yarraville Seddon in their 95-point thrashing of West Footscray.

The home side had 10 individual goal kickers in the 23.16. (154) to 9.5. (59) win.
