FALCONS GO JOINT TOP, DEVILS WIN TWO ON THE TROT
Wyndhamvale has gone equal top on the Division 2 Men’s ladder after maintaining their unbeaten start to the season with a 44-point win over Braybrook.
The Falcons are now just percentage behind Albion following a16.13 (109) to 10.5 (65) victory over the Brookers at South Wyndhamvale Reserve in Round 6.
A strong opening half saw the hosts up by 40 points before the Brookers reduced the margin to 24 points with a quarter to play.
However, the hosts were never really threatened as Cameron Morrison continued his vein of form with Tyler Tessari also among the best players for the Falcons.
They should have no problems achieving a seventh straight win when the play North Sunshine next while Braybrook will look to bounce back against Suns at Pennell Reserve.
On Saturday, Suns were big winners over Western Rams with playing coach Dean Cahia having a day out in front of goal, bagging 15 of his team’s 34 majors at Goddard Street Reserve.
Leading by 63 points at the main break after the Rams produced their best quarter of footy in the second, the hosts ramped things up over the final two terms piling on 21 goals to end the game.
Despite Cachia’s notable day Brenden Wilson was named the Suns’ best while Damon Lewis and Matthew Land continued their strong performances for the Rams who face Albanvale next.
Albanvale will enter that match having let slip an opportunity to record their third win of the season in Saturday’s Wyn FM broadcast Match of the Day against North Footscray.
The Cobras trailed by just a point at halftime at Robert Bruce Reserve but an eight goal to four second half by the away side saw the Devils triumph 13.17 (95) to 10.6 (66).
North Foostcray now host Newport who enjoyed an easy win at Tarneit led by Mustapha Mesto who booted a season-high 10 goals against the Titans.
Captain Abdul Jawad also finished with a season-best goal tally, kicking five majors, while Connor Modrich and Benjamin Arabi worked hard for four quarters for Tarneit.
The Titans have another challenge in Round 7 hosting league leaders Albion who return from a freshen up.
Meanwhile, Laverton made it back-to-back wins with a 29-point victory at home over Sunshine Heights.
The Magpies jumped their opponents early with eight first quarter goals and maintained a healthy advantage until the final siren to secure the four points 14.11 (95) to 11.8 (74).
Skipper Alex Grigg finished with four goals for the hosts who were best served by Christopher Sivanesan, with Jacob Poa and James Vella the top performers for the visitors.
Sunshine Heights are back at home this coming weekend as West Footscray makes their way to Ainsworth Reserve while Laverton head to Kindersmith Reserve to face Sunshine.
West Foostcray had no issues against North Sunshine producing a consistent four quarter performance to defeat the Road Runners by 200 points.
Thomas Stelluto (10 goals), Socrates Mavrokostidis (seven) and Matthew Turcinovich (five) combined to kick 22 of the 32 Roosters goals.
