By CONNOR PAIN
In a battle of the competition’s two best teams, Wyndhamvale emerged as the premiership favourites needing every minute of the four quarters to knock off second-placed Yarraville Seddon 12.10. (82) to 11.9. (75).
The Falcons jumped out early in a repeat of their previous clash at the Eagles home ground, leading by 19-points at the first break.
The home side hit back in the second, booting four goals to two to cut the deficit to just three-points at the half.
A low scoring third quarter set up a scintillating final quarter as the ladder-leaders booted five goals to four, sealing the seven-point win in arguably Wyndhamvale’s most important win of 2019.
Tyler Tessari was best on ground in the close win for Wyndhamvale, while James Backway and Jesse Varsamakis each booted three majors for Yarraville Seddon.
The win puts the Falcons two games up on the Eagles with just three games remaining that all but wraps up top spot for the premiership favourites.
Parkside produced a monumental comeback to knock off Newport despite trailing by 33-points after the first quarter.
Smashed in the opener, the Magpies went whack in the second with six goals to one and were surprisingly ahead at the half by a point in one of the craziest first halves seen this season.
The second half didn’t contain the same fireworks, but was hard fought and at the final siren both sides sat on 12 majors but six more behinds proved to be the difference for Parkside in the 12.13. (85) to 12.7. (79) win.
Point Cook Centrals held off a valiant West Footscray to run out 14.16. (100) to 13.7. (85) victors.
Despite Darcy McCallum’s game-high six majors for the Roosters, the visitors couldn’t get over the line as the Sharks proved too strong over the four quarters.
