FINALS FEEL TO FRIDAY NIGHT CLASH

Wyndhamvale’s Senior Women’s Coach Craig Prior is treating tonight’s blockbuster clash with Point Cook as a final, with the winner almost guaranteed a spot in the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s Division 2 finals.

The Falcons and the Bulldogs are currently sitting fourth and fifth on the ladder, equal on games won. With three rounds to go, a win would certainly seal a spot in the finals and Prior says his team are up for the challenge.

“The game will directly impact finals. Whoever wins, it will make it incredibly hard for the other to get around,” he said.

“Finals really begin for and us and them tonight.”

The two teams have faced each other twice already in 2022 with Point Cook winning one and Wyndhamvale the other.

Their first encounter was back in May, with the Bulldogs claiming a 61-point win. The Falcons then turned the tables in Round 11, winning by 58-points.

Prior said as a group they have decided not to discuss the possibility of finals and are focussing on what they can control and the effort they put in across four quarters.

“They (the team) know there is an outside chance we play finals, but we decided to not talk about it until it was an actual thing,” he said.

“We are only worried about what we can do. If we are good enough then that is great, if not we will try again next season.”

Prior said he has really enjoyed coaching the group this season and has loved seeing the development of all players.

“We haven’t had a full season in a while, so it has been good to have footy back,” he said.

“We were a new team last year and to see the improvement from last year to this year, it has been huge.”

Point Cook will host Wyndhamvale in Round 14 action tonight at Saltwater Reserve at 7pm.
