FINALS IN SIGHT AS SENIOR WOMEN’S COMPLETE ROUND 13

With just three rounds of the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s home and away season to go, the teams of Division 1 and 2 are striving to secure their spot in finals, with Round 13 delivering all the footy action.
On Friday night, Point Cook welcomed North Sunshine to Saltwater Reserve, with the home side locking in a huge 126-point win. Doggies Emily Laidlaw and Erin Robinson each registered 5 goals a piece, whilst Mariella Teuira stood strong for North Sunshine.
Werribee Centrals took on Yarraville Seddon at their Galvin Park fortress, overcoming the Eagles for a 26-point win. Larrisa Renaut added 3 majors to the scoreboard, whilst teammate Keely Spiteri was influential across the ground for the Centurions. Seirra Greives kicked 2 for Eagles and was well supported by Hannah Lazzaro.
Saturday morning saw the Parkside Spurs take on Point Cook Centrals down by the banks of the Maribyrnong. The two sides have been building a healthy rivalry across the season, with this their third meeting of 2023. Ashlea Block hit the scoreboard for the Spurs along with Nadine Lampard and Aleisha Casely, whilst Mandy Seath was the lone goal kicker for the Sharks.
Elsewhere on Saturday, the Magpies hosted Division 2 ladder-leaders Wyndhamvale in their hit-out at Laverton Park. Andrea Carige and Mirae Holland hit the scoreboard for the home side, whilst Kellee Mcintosh added 5 majors to her tally and was well supported by the efforts of Emily Kalos, with both earning time in best for the Falcons.
Spotswood met Braybrook on Converse Oval in a one-sided affair, with the home side running over the Brookers by a huge 180-points. Isabel Choate kicked 2 goals and was named in best for the Wolves, whilst Braybrook’s Jen Tang led from the middle and earned best on honours for her side.
Caroline springs hosted a senior women’s double-header at Taylors Run oval, with their Division 2 side opening the proceedings against West Footscray. The Roosters claimed a decisive 54-point victory, all but ending the Lakers hopes for a final’s appearance in 2023. Alana Vidov and playing-coach Alisha Fowler kicked the home side’s only majors, whilst Juri Ilves and Krystyn Raymundo helped turn the game in the centre for the Roosters.
The weekend’s fixture was rounded out with a stunning display of Division 1 footy, with Caroline Springs narrowly ousting Spotswood in a 5-point nailbiter. Both sides wrestled for control of the momentum, but it was a captain’s goal from Caitlin Pretty in the dying minutes of the game that sealed the win for the Lakers.
Caitlin Brennan kicked 2, and Jasmine Faruggia provided plenty of rebounding run and carry for Spotwood, whilst My Yen Au (1 goal) and Stephanie Asciak were influential in the victory for Caroline Springs.
