FLEMINGTON JUNIORS SCORE BIG WIN

On a showery day at JJ Holland park, the Flemington Juniors Under 18 Division 2 team were too strong for Hoppers Crossing who fought valiantly.
In the first quarter, Flemington piled on the pressure keeping the opposition scoreless to lead by 41-points at the first break.
In the second quarter, Flemington continued their great form by kicking truly. Archie Frazer was a standout in the backline for Flemington with key intercept marks to leave Hoppers Crossing scoreless to half-time.
In the third quarter, Flemington carried on their dominance scoring with the wind as Giuliano Giurleo provided excellent ball movement across the midfield setting up goals from stoppages.
Lachlan Meilak proved a nuisance in the forward line kicking five goals.
“Amazing being back playing footy after two years, kicking a goal and the competitiveness was something I really missed,” Flemington forward Anthony Cilmi said after the game.
Other results from the grounds, Newport hosting Point Cook at Langshaw reserve. In the end Point Cook were too strong for Newport who fought well for a late resurgence.
Max Logan was best on ground for Point Cook, while Abdul Kareem Bey was Newport’s best player in Round 1.
In the final game of the Under 18 Division 2 competition was between Werribee Districts and St Albans, with the Saints claiming the four premiership points.
Werribee Districts had eight scoring shots to two in the final quarter, but couldn’t bridge the gap, with St Albans winning 8.6. (54) to 5.13. (43).
Travis Meldrum kicked four goals in the win.
