FROM SPOTSWOOD TO CARLTON

From Spotswood to Carlton.

It’s been a special night for young gun Jordan Boyd, who was selected by Carlton in the NAB AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft.

Boyd, who has played 190 games for Spotswood across his junior and senior career, was rewarded for his impressive performances at VFL level with a six-month rookie contract with the Blues.

The medium forward has not missed a beat at VFL level, having played every game for Footscray, who are currently undefeated.

During his time in the WRFL, Boyd has represented the WRFL at Senior Interleague level and in 2019 was picked to represent Vic Metro in a game against the Tasmanian State League.

The classy finisher going forward, Boyd also played for Spotswood in Round 1 of the TIV Division 1 competition this year.

Carlton’s Head of List Management Nick Austin said Boyd’s story was one of perseverance.

“We’re really pleased to be able to add Jordan to our football program,” he said.

“He’s 22 years of age and someone who has fought for everything that’s come his way: he really grasped the opportunity of VFL footy with both hands and we feel he’s the kind of player who can thrive in an AFL environment.

“We’ve liked his work mainly as a forward but he’s also someone who can get involved and work up the ground. He’s a good ball user and a lovely finisher around goal, so we think he’s going to complement what we’ve got in that forward mix.”
