IACCARINO NAMED MOST VALUABLE PLAYER

Spotswood captain David Iaccarino has been voted as the Western Region Football League Most Valuable Player for 2019.

Iaccarino was voted by the Division 1 coaches as the MVP this season, capping off an impressive season in the green and gold.

Iaccarino polled 18 votes, five ahead of Altona star Steve Kennedy. Rounding out the top three was Hoppers Crossing player Braden Ferrari.

Now in it’s ninth year the Most Valuable Player Award recognises the WRFL’s best overall senior player in the Division 1 competition.

Using the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 system, coaches voted for the players that were not necessarily the ‘best player,’ but one who embodies leadership, versatility, ability to play under pressure, skill and courage, respect for all umpires and overall value to their team.

Three Division 1 coaches gave Iaccarino five votes.

“There are some bloody good players in the competition and to be recognised by the coaches as the MVP is an honour,” Iaccarino said.

“Personally, I have a had a strong season. Being captain there has been that added responsibility as well, but this I have been playing more forward and have kicked more goals than I usually have, so I have had more of an impact.”

Spotswood will take on Werribee Districts in the RAMS Division 1 First Semi Final this Sunday at Avalon Airport Oval at 2.15pm.
