LAKERS ENHANCE PREMIERSHIP CHANCES

Round 16 of the WRFL TIV Under 19 competition contained one result that went as predicted, while the other contest produced a result that surprised most.

Altona went into their clash with Werribee Districts as overwhelming favourites and performed accordingly, running out 57-point winners in the 14.12. (96) to 6.3. (39) victory.

Altona looked in control from early on in the game, and steadily increased their margin throughout the match.

The dynamic forward duo of Jack Papachatzakis and Brody Searle provided 8 goals, while star forward Daniel Pantalleresco chipped in with 3 majors of his own.

Zachary Santullo and Brody Searle were also highly instrumental in the victory, as Altona continue to reinforce their standing as flag favourites.

For Werribee, Luke Fava, Liam Robinson and Jackson Watt stood tall and performed admirably throughout the contest.

In the other contest that took place, Caroline Springs produced a stunning upset against second-placed Hoppers Crossing, in a statement of intent that enhanced their premiership credentials.

The Lakers were led by Cody Raak, who kicked 4 goals in a stunning best-on-ground display.

Raak and Brian Gill were two commanding factors in the 10.10. (70) to 9.6. (60) victory, that saw a high level quality of football being produced, despite the wintry conditions at hand.

The victory wasn’t without drama though, as Hoppers Crossing worked it’s back from a 20-point three quarter time deficit to almost steal the victory. However, the late scare from the visitors was not enough to earn the four points in the end.

For the Warriors, Rhys Boys and Brendan Neville were standouts in the 10-point loss. The Warriors still sit two games clear of Caroline Springs in second place, but that could change depending on the results of the final two rounds.

Point Cook had a week off with the bye, and will seek to earn it’s first win against Caroline Springs in Round 17.
