LAKERS EXTEND STREAK, AND A REMARKABLE SECOND DRAW

By Kel Rowe |

Round 13 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s competition played out over the final Saturday of July and saw one team’s result earn them an unusual club record, whilst another cemented their status at the top of the ladder.

To start the weekend, Suns hosted North Sunshine, executing a 131-point win at Goddard Street Reserve.

Matilda Brown and Meagan Stonehouse were main contributors for the home team, whilst teammate Mandy Seath topped the scoreboard with four majors.

Despite being unable to crack the scoreboard, Roadrunners Anne-Maree Innocenti and Amy Duggan worked hard under pressure for the visiting side.

Wyndhamvale went head-to-head with Werribee Centrals, with the reigning premiers coasting to an 80-point away victory over the Falcons.

Paige Cook and Madi Cronin starred for the Centurions, with the latter adding three goals to their tally.

Mariah Burton snagged Wyndhamvale’s lone major and was named amongst the best alongside teammates Harper Sell and Emily Kalos.

Point Cook Centrals and West Footscray met at Windorah Way Reserve and both sides were unable to split the difference for the second time this season, the match ending in another draw.

For the Roosters it was their thurd tie of the season (and a new club record), their other draw came at home in Round 7 when they surprised Werribee Centrals.

Erin Porter and Katherine Belcher performed well for the Roosters, with Laycee Covington-Gorst kicking a goal to celebrate her 50th game.

Meanwhile, Karla Davis (one goal) and Sabine Harnden were standouts for the Sharks.

The final game of the round saw Yarraville Seddon welcome Caroline Springs for a 2pm fixture, with the Lakers continuing their winning spree with a 108-point triumph over the Eagles.

Maggie Logan and Rosie Ronan-Yates impressed for the hosts, but it was Lakers’ easing to victory thanks to strong performances from Nyomi Stowers (two goals) and Charlotte Gerada along with four goals from Jacinta Kondis.
