LAKERS ON TOP

Beautiful wintery conditions blessed most of the games in Round 10 of the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s competition, with Caroline Springs firmly cementing their spot at the top of Division 1 ladder and a hard-fought win for the Sharks preserving their unbeaten run in Division 2.

The round kicked off on Friday night, with West Footscray heading out to Saltwater Reserve to take on Point Cook under lights. A contested game saw the Roosters fight out four quarters of footy to take home a 23-point win.

Sarah Goulding starred through the middle for the Bulldogs, whilst Emily Gillespie continued to add to her season tally with two goals for the visiting side.

Caroline Springs’ Division 1 side continued to exert their dominance, this time taking it to Spotswood in their top-of- the table clash on Saturday.

The Lakers were in control for much of their 41-point victory, keeping the Wolves from registering a major until the final quarter.

Jacinta Kondis claimed four goals for Caroline Springs, whilst Kerrie Clarke and Morganne Gaston worked hard for the Spotswood side and were named amongst the best.

North Sunshine clawed back the difference in the final quarter of their game against Laverton to draw at 21-points apiece.

Shenay Benbow, Maddy Kromek and Ikesha Alexander all starred for the Road Runners, while Abbey Brown stood strong for the Magpies.

Manor Lakes bounced back from their loss in the previous round, nabbing a 17-point victory over Yarraville Seddon. The Storm held the Eagles scoreless until the final quarter, with Ann-Marie Geary kicking the only major for the visitors.

Giselle Lambley, Paras Mackenzie and Caitlyn Mitchell all hit the scoreboard for Manor lakes, with the latter also being named among her side’s best.

Caroline Springs hosted Division 2 ladder-leaders Point Cook Centrals, in a hard-fought, physical game between the two rivals.

The Lakers were hard out of the gates from the opening siren, but the Sharks held their nerve in the second half of the game, locking in a 19-point win to maintain their unbeaten run.

Krystal Delanty celebrated 50 games, with teammates Reggie Auld and Lauren D’Lima stepping up for the Reserves side. Sharni Currie booted two for the Sharks, while Sarah Daw and Hannah Blamey were also influential.

Werribee Centrals executed a dominant display on home turf against Hoppers Crossing, running over the Warriors by 128-points.

Larrisa Renaut bagged 11 goals for the Centurions side. Extending her lead at the top of the goal kicking tally with 35 goals for the season.
