LAKERS REMAIN UNDEFEATED, POINT COOK RISE

Caroline Springs maintained its perfect start to the season with a barnstorming last quarter to knock off Hoppers Crossing for the first time.

The Lakers booted six goals to one in the last quarter to put the result beyond doubt, but it was Steven Kyriazis’ (four majors) spectacular mark in the second term that punctuated his side’s strong performance.

The Warriors showed flashes, but couldn’t put it together in the 48-point loss.

Jake Mold and Josh Cubillo were among the best for the Lakers, who have now beaten every team in TIV Division 1 as we head into the bye for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

For the Warriors, they sit tied on points with Deer Park in third spot on the ladder ahead of a clash with Sunshine in Round 10, while the Lakers will face the Lions in a tantalising clash.

Point Cook’s 11-point triumph against Sunshine lifts them off the bottom of the ladder to eighth on the table, a win clear of the Eagles and Kangaroos.

The Bulldogs survived a late scare, but managed to hold on, to win 11.10. (76) to 9.11. (65).

Captain Nicholas Bukyx starred for the victors. Derek Eggmolesse-Smith again played well for the Bulldogs as did Josh Kuppen, who booted three goals.

Altona used an eight goal to two opening term to hold Yarraville Seddon at bay, running out 19.10. (124) to 12.10. (82) victors.

The Vikings were just far too strong in the 42-point win, but the Eagles fought all day and managed to win the last term.

Connor Menadue and Elliot Cavallaro combined for 13 goals. Kelly Pickard was named best on ground.

Both sides hit the road in Round 10, Altona facing St Albans with Yarraville Seddon battling Spotswood.

Deer Park overcame a slow start to edge out Spotswood at John McLeod Oval.

Down by three-points at the first break, the Lions kept their opponents to just one goal thereafter, while they kicked seven goals, winning 8.15. (63) to 3.8. (26).

The Lions sixth win of 2022 was hard fought, but the 37-point victory puts them two games clear of the Woodsmen.

Trent Lee’s five majors highlighted Werribee Districts comfortable 17.13. (115) to 6.6. (42) win against St Albans.

The home side booted 12 goals to three after quarter time, cruising to the 73-point thumping.

Dillon Viojo-Rainbow was again the best, continuing his run of good form.
