LAVERTON, NORTH FOOSTCRAY GET SECOND WINS
North Footscray collected its second win of the Division 2 Men’s season in fine fashion with a 104-point triumph over Tarneit in Round 5.
After an inaccurate first half in which the Devils kicked 5.13, the visitors made the most of their opportunities over the final two terms running out winners 19.18 (132) to 4.4 (28).
Matthew Serafin continued his good form booting seven goals with Barnaby Sianos claiming best on ground honours.
For the home team Michael Scolaro and Liam Meyrich were again Tarneit’s best.
Next up for North Footscray is a meeting with Albanvale while Tarneit face Newport who will look to bounce back following their first loss of the season.
Sunshine made a statement with an 18.19 (127) to 5.8 (38) victory over Newport in second versus third clash at Kindersmith Reserve.
With just two points separating the sides at the first break the match looked poised to be a close one, but the Kangaroos had other ideas as they dominated over the next three quarters.
The home team finished the day with six multiple goal kickers, Hisham Kerbatieh bagging four for the second week running.
Kyle Wilson and Fabian Brancatisano were also instrumental with Belal Abou-Eid, Zach Del Grosso the best performers for the Panthers.
Sunshine enter their week off second on the ladder with 5-1 win-loss record.
Wyndhamvale moved into third on ladder as a result of Newport’s loss and their own comfortable victory over Western Rams.
The Falcons posted an impressive 24.16 (160) to 3.5 (23) win at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve as Nathan Griffiths and Damon Stephens starred with six and five goals respectively.
Matthew Land and Jordan Partridge were the top contributors for the Rams.
Wyndhamvale now meet Braybrook while the Suns will be the Rams’ next opponent.
Suns were involved in the match of the round for the second week in a row, and again came out on the right side of the result, downing Albanvale by 10 points.
With the game tied up at halftime at 35-all, a five goal to one third term by the visiting side would ultimately be the difference in the final 13.10 (88) to 10.16 (76) scoreline.
Coach Dean Cachia led the way for the Suns with five goals and was well supported by Daniel O’Leary.
Matthew Taylor kicked four goals for Albanvale to be their best player along with Jackson Smith.
Albion continued its dominance winning by more than 200 points for the second straight week.
The Cats had 10 multiple goal kickers in Saturday’s victory over Sunshine Heights with Cooper Muir kicking six for the second time this season.
Kyall Parker and Brent Taylor battled tirelessly for the Dragons who now face Laverton in Round 6, with Albion having a bye.
In the Wyn FM broadcast Match of the Day it was Braybrook who returned from a week off to defeat West Footscray by 32 points at Shorten Reserve.
Harley Cameron was outstanding while Stephen Mihelakos-James bagged five goals for the Brookers who jumped the Roosters into fifth place with the 16.14 (110) to 11.12 (78) result.
Jaycob Doyle and Otis Storti-Ljubas were named West Foostcray’s best.
Laverton also returned to the winners list on the weekend easily getting by North Sunshine at Dempster Park.
Alex Grigg dominated in attack kicking 10 goals in the 31.27 (213) to 2.6 (18) victory to claim best on ground honours from Matthew Vorbach.
The Roadrunners were best served by Arron Foster and Oscar Grech.
