By CONNOR PAIN

Shaun Campbell’s 10 goals highlighted Parkside’s huge 26.11(167) to 2.4(16) win against West Footscray that sees them finish Round 3 on top of the ladder.

The Magpies got out to a strong start with five goals to zero in the opening term and didn’t hold back after the first break, booting a further 21 goals.

Aaron Flavel and Brent Kelly added four majors each in the competition’s biggest win of the season so far.

The disappointing result sees West Footscray anchored to the bottom of the ladder ahead of a clash with Point Cook Centrals, with the loser set for an 0-4 start. Parkside will hit the road and face North Footscray in Round 4.

Newport overturned a half-time deficit to hold on for a tight eight-point win against a gallant Albion.

Down by a goal at the major break, the home side looked troubled early against the Cats, but produced a strong comeback in the third term as they held onto an 11-point lead going into the final quarter.

Despite losing the fourth quarter Newport did enough to hold on, running out 10.12. (72) to 9.10. (64) victors. The winners facing Wyndhamvale in Round 4 in what shapes as the likely game of the round.

Glen Orden needed its own comeback with three goals in the final term enough to see the Hawks hold on for a 12.7. (79) to 10.8. (68) win against North Footscray.

Joel Radovanovic kicked four in the 11-point triumph as the Hawks are one of three teams to start the season undefeated.

Liam Scarborough’s five majors proved to be too much as Wyndhamvale overcame a slow and inaccurate start to run out 11.14. (80) to 9.7. (61) winners against Point Cook Centrals.
