By RHYS WOOSNAM
One of the matches of the season took place this weekend, with Manor Lakes and the Newport Power playing out a thriller which saw the Storm hold on for a two point victory.
The win was massive in the context of their year, with the resulting four points clinching them a spot in the top four and serious momentum heading into the second half of the season.
It was a match where the Storm held a strong lead at quarter time and battled to hold off their opposition, with the Power closing the margin to 6 points at the half.
The ‘premiership quarter’ had both teams kicking two goals apiece to keep the contest tight heading into the final stanza, with Manor Lakes eventually getting the lucrative victory. Jackson Lesko starred for Manor Lakes, booting four goals in his best performance for 2018, while Malek El-Hassan was best on for Newport.
Yarraville-Seddon sent a message to their fellow premiership contenders, absolutely laying waste to West Footscray by 106 points, adding to their already dominant percentage. The Eagles maintained a healthy margin throughout the first three quarters, before booting six goals to nothing in the final quarter to put the lead beyond the century mark.
For Yarraville, Corey Salvador continued his tremendous season, kicking six goals to take his tally to 42 for the year.
