WFNL Match of the Day will head to Saltwater Reserve this Saturday for a must-win clash between Point Cook and Newport.
With these sides resting eleventh and tenth on the ladder respectively, the Bulldogs and Panthers will be desperate to put a win on the board and steer themselves away from the relegation zone.
Point Cook hasn’t tasted victory since Round 3’s 66-point triumph over local rivals in Point Cook Centrals.
The Panthers were last victorious in Round 5, also getting over Centrals, by 47 points.
Both sides will hope to snap their losing streaks and will bring some key names to the table, with an array of players to be watched in the contest.
The Bulldogs boast some handy goalkicking talent in Zayne Galea and Oscar May, who have accumulated a respective 18 and 14 majors in 2026 so far, with May booting three last weekend.
Newport will look to match that dynamic duo’s potential with a powerful pair of their own in Hussein Kadour and Ahmed Saad.
Kadour and Saad find themselves in the top ten of the league’s goalkicking competition, with both having a total of 27 next to their name.
This weekend’s match will also feature an intriguing match-up, with two of the league’s leading ball getters in Bailey Young (Newport) and Braxton Simms (Point Cook) facing off.
The pair both average disposal counts that excess 30 each week, and will both look to work their way onto the highlights reel.
Fresh off a 38-touch outing last weekend, Cameron Kizan will further add to the display for Point Cook.
Newport has come close to singing the song in recent weeks, with the Panthers most notably going down to one of the premiership favourites, Caroline Springs, by just eight points in a thrilling contest.
This weekend marks the first time the Dogs and Panthers will meet this season, with the Bulldogs getting over Newport by 19 points in Round 13 last year.
