NEWPORT HOPING TO MATCH IT WITH THE BEST
Newport coach Ziggy Kadour hopes his team is able to match it with the rest of the competition for longer periods this season.
Newport has been building steadily in Division 2 competition since they were promoted in 2017.
Two years ago, they finished the season in fifth place having won eight games and lost 10.
“We want to be more competitive against the top teams,” Kadour said.
“With the club now introducing an Under 18’s team, I would love to see a couple of Under 18 kids playing senior footy throughout 2021.”
Kadour said like most clubs, his approach to pre-season training has been different to previous years.
“We didn’t start training until after the Australia Day weekend to allow the boys to get rid of the lockdown syndrome,” he said.
“Our numbers have been good. We are now just looking forward to playing games again.
“The people around the club are what makes local footy so good, it’s awesome to see all the Newport Football Club people again.”
Newport kick-off their 2021 Prestige Group Real Estate Division 2 campaign against West Footscray on April 10.
