Newport scored their first win of the season with a thrilling three-point win over Tarneit at Langshaw Reserve in the Under 18 Division 2 competition on Saturday.
In the first quarter, Newport kicked two goals to one as they took a one-point lead to the first change.
Tarneit turned the tables in the second quarter, piling on the pressure, kicking two goals and keeping Newport goalless.
The momentum flipped in favour of Newport in the third quarter. Mohammed El-Kerdi kicked the only goal of the quarter, which saw the home side re-claim the lead heading into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, Tarneit kicked two goals to Newport’s one, however Jamal Elhawli’s goal was enough to clench Newport’s first win of the season.
Mohammed Abou-Zeid was best on ground for Newport and Jesse Wilkinson was Tarneit’s best.
In other results, Werribee Districts hosted Point Cook at Keogh Homes Oval. Only 11-points separated the two teams at three-quarter-time.
However, it was the Dogs who came out firing in the final term, kicking six unanswered goals to win by 51-points.
Max Logan was best on ground for Point Cook, he kicked two goals.
In the final game of Round 6, Flemington Juniors overcame an eight-point deficit at the final break to win by 13-points.
The visitors kicked four goals in the final quarter to record their fifth straight win and keep their undefeated status.
Elias Manne kicked three goals for Flemington, while Giuliano Giurleo was named the best for Flemington. For St Albans, Jackson Emery kicked four goals and Jayden Kretiuk was the best.
In Round 7, Point Cook will host Newport at Saltwater Reserve, St Albans play Hoppers Crossing at Kings Park Reserve and Flemington Juniors host Werribee Districts at JJ Holland Park. Tarneit has a bye.
