NEWPORT TRIUMPH OVER SUNSHINE

Newport triumphed over Sunshine in a thrilling 14.10(94) to 10.11(71) victory in Round 5 of the WRFL’s Division 2 competition.

After a close first quarter, Sunshine were in front by just one point. However, they were unable to maintain their lead as Newport kicked a smashing six goals to Sunshine’s two in the second quarter.

Newport managed to maintain their 20-point margin for the rest of the match, managing a 28-point lead by the close of the third quarter.

Honourable mention to Hussien Kadour who secured six goals for Newport, helping tremendously to lead them to their victory.

Albion took the win against Wyndhamvale in a fierce 10.12(72) to 4.10(34) match.

After a low scoring first and second quarter with only two points on the board, Wyndhamvale fought hard in the second half to close the gap on the scoreboard. However, Newport proved too powerful, finishing the third quarter with a 40-point lead.

Cooper Muir for Albion had a spectacular game, securing himself two goals and the best on ground title for his team.

Wyndhamvale’s Cameron Morrison scored two of his teams four goals and also landed a spot on the best on ground list.

North Footscray blew Braybrook out of the water in a 17.13(115) to 4.5(29) win.

Braybrook remained consistent throughout the match, scoring at least one goal a quarter and fighting hard to keep the margin down but North Footscray kept the heat up.

The Devils scored nine goals in the first half and came back again in the second half with eight more. Seven of which were scored by their round 5 best on ground Samuel Kater.

Akoi Akoi had a spectacular game for Braybrook, securing himself the title of best on ground for his team.
