PREMIERSHIP ON THE LINE FOR BULLDOGS

The Western Bulldogs Women’s team will by vying for premiership glory on Saturday when they take on the Brisbane Lions in the AFLW Grand Final.

The Bulldogs won their way into decider after defeating Melbourne in a tense battle at the weekend.

The team from VU Whitten Oval ended the home and away season on top of the ladder and will now face the Lions in the second AFLW Grand Final.

The star-studded team has some strong connections to the WRFL.

Former Wyndhamvale junior Naomi Ferres joined the Bulldogs this season after she was selected with Pick 3 in the AFLW Rookie Draft.

Ferres has played all seven games this season, averaging eight disposals and two tackles a game.

The talented midfielder played with the Werribee Centrals from Under 10’s through to Under 14’s before making the move to Wyndhamvale.

In 2012 she was a member of the WRFL’s Youth Girls team during the Junior Championships and in 2015 won the Under-18 Girls Best and Fairest award.

Ferres was also named one of the Round 7 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominees.

Aisling Utri is another WRFL junior product.

Utri played with St Bernards as a youngster. She joined the Bulldogs as a rookie last August and was quickly upgraded to the senior list.

She made her debut in Round 1 and hasn’t missed a beat, averaging a goal a game as well as 10 disposals and two marks.

The forward line star was the Round 4 NAB AFLW Rising Star nominee.

Finally, Best and Fairest winner Emma Kearney has had another dominant season for the Bulldogs.

The All-Australian midfielder is the coach of Flemington Juniors’ Under 12 Girls team.

Kearney has had another stellar season and has been one of the stars of the competition. She has averaged 20 disposals in 2018.

The WRFL wishes Western Bulldogs AFLW team the best of luck in Saturday’s Grand Final against Brisbane.

The match will be played at Ikon Park at 12.35pm. Entry is free.
