ROOSTERS RUIN FALCON’S WINNING RUN

TAC Road safety Round saw another weekend of footy in the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s Competition, with some crucial wins setting up the ladders both Division 1 and Division 2 as the season moves fast towards finals.
The Parkside Spurs kicked off proceedings on Friday night on Henry Turner Reserve against Yarraville Seddon, claiming an important 12-point win over the Eagles. Riaana Sadler and Taquila Angel impressed for the Spurs, whilst Lahne Scrivener worked hard for the Eagles.
Spurs player Jacinta Ganino also celebrated her 100th game, moving up the through the club since the Youth Girls Competition was established a decade ago.
Division 1 side Spotswood evened the score against Werribee Centrals after their last meeting — winning by a comfortable 49-points. Kerrie Clarke had a field day in front of goal, kicking 4 majors for the Wolves, whilst Loren Mills kicked 2 and was named in best for the Centurions.
Point Cook Centrals hosted the Caroline Springs Division 1 side, going down to the Lakers by 85-ponits. Charli Sette performed for the Sharks, whilst CJ Pretty kicked 5 and Nikki Perrett was best on. Laker Alana Ellis celebrated her 100th game milestone, having begun her senior footy as a member of the club’s inaugural U18s in 2015.
North Sunshine went head-to-head with Braybrook on home turf at Dempster Park, but it was the visitors who prevailed by 30-points. Mystical Hair hit the scoreboard for the Roadrunners and earned time in best, whilst Natasha Combs kicked two majors and was well supported around the ground by fellow Brooker Jenny Tang.
West Footscray claimed a big scalp on Saturday night, overcoming a previously unbeaten Wyndhamvale in a 2-point nailbiter at Shorten Reserve. The two sides wrestled for ascendency for the full four quarters, but it was the Roosters who held the lead at every change.
Harmoni Fonua and Rachael Sheriff were influential for the Falcons, and Krystyn Raymundo and Kathleen Gannon lead from the middle for the Roosters. Stacey Gardiner celebrated her 50th game for West Footscray to cap off the night.
In the final game for the weekend, Laverton staked their claim on fourth spot on the Division 2 competition ladder, beating Caroline Springs by a convincing 31-points. The dominant display from the Magpies signalled the side’s determination to ruffles some feathers come finals time. Rylee Driscoll kicked the Laker’s lone goal, whilst Laverton had 5 individual goal kickers, lead by the efforts of Hayley O’Reilly.
