SECOND EFFORTS IMPRESSING MEYER

The second and third efforts is what is impressing Point Cook Centrals Senior Women’s coach Leanne Meyer.

The Sharks had a great win over Braybrook/Albanvale at the weekend, with Meyer saying the team’s effort and desire to improve each week was what has excited her. She said she was looking forward to seeing what her team can produce in the second half of the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s season.

“We have had a lot of new footballers this season and previously we haven’t seen the second and third efforts, but we had that on the weekend,” Meyer said.

“We were running in numbers and for the first time we had a game plan and played to that plan.

“It was a fun game, we played great footy.”

Point Cook Centrals is currently sitting in seventh place on the ladder, having won three games and lost three games.

“The vibe and the energy in our team this year has been incredible,” Meyer said.

“I would say we are meeting expectation. We are sitting where we thought we would be on the ladder.

“We do need play some consistent football if we do want to be in finals at the end of the year.”

In Round 10 action of the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s season, the Sharks will go head-to-head with Hoppers Crossing on Sunday.

The Warriors, playing in their inaugural season, have been one of the contenders of 2021, having won five of its seven games.

Meyer said the team was looking forward to the challenge.

“We take it one bounce at a tie, one play at a time and have fun. We missed out on football for a few weeks, so we should be having fun when we play,” she said.

“We will respect the opponent and what will be will be.”

The game will be played at Featherbrook Reserve on Sunday at 4pm.
