Senior Women: Round 10 Report
By Kel Rowe
Round 10 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition saw 4 matches play out in greasy conditions, with early rain making life tough at the contest.
Point Cook Centrals Senior Women v North Footscray Senior Women
20.9-129 defeated 1.0-6 Point Cook Centrals Senior Women won by 123 points
Point Cook Centrals and North Footscray met for the second time this season, with the Sharks locking in a 123-point win over the Devils at Windorah Way Reserve.
Hayley Bennet and Jennifer Hedjes were the standout performers for Point Cook Centrals, whilst the match also marked the 100th game milestone for Shark Ruby Hogan (1 goal). North Footscray’s Sonia Casey and Mikaela Stores earned time in best for their efforts.
Suns Senior Women v Wyndhamvale Senior Women
2.1-13 defeated by 6.5-41 Wyndhamvale Senior Women won by 28 points
A tough, contested match played out between the Suns and visiting side Wyndhamvale, with the Falcons claiming the chocolates in a 28-point victory. Suns Matilda Brown and Angel Pokora earned best on honours for the game, which saw a relatively even first half of footy, before Wyndhamvale made the most of their scoring shots.
Falcon Harper Sell continued her good run of form in the middle of the ground and was well supported by teammates Chloe Prior and Larissa Renaut.
Renaut bagged three majors in the game — leapfrogging the Spurs’ Aleisha Casely to claim back top spot on the Leading Goal Kicking Ladder — sitting just one goal ahead. Based on the run home, Renaut has plenty of opportunities to keep building that lead, but so too does Casely, so it should prove to be an exciting race to the finish!
Parkside Spurs Senior Women v Yarraville Seddon Eagles Senior Women
10.19-79 defeated 0.0-0 Parkside Spurs Senior Women won by 79 points
The Spurs welcomed Yarraville Seddon to Merv Hughes Oval, asserting their competition dominance over the Eagles to secure a 79-point victory by the final siren. Marlo Atkins starred for the Spurs, kicking 4 majors and earning best on ground honours, whilst teammates Jess Byrnes and Sheridan Casley also impressed.
Pippa Nolan and Michelle Eaton fought hard for Yarraville, but the side was ultimately held scoreless after 4 quarters.
West Footscray Senior Women v Laverton Magpies Senior Women
8.11-59 defeated 2.4-16 West Footscray Senior Women won by 43 points
To round out the weekend, the West Footscray Roosters stunned Laverton with a well-rounded team performance, registering a 43-point win over the 4th-placed Magpies at Skinner Reserve.
Juri Graco-Ilves put on a show inside the Roosters’ forward-50, bagging 5 majors, whilst teammate Julia McPhee led a disciplined backline across the game.
For the Magpies, Quetta Holloway-Jinks was named in best, with Shae-Lee Murphy-Burke and Sina Mason working hard to rebound against the home side.
