SENIOR WOMEN: ROUND 4 REPORT

By Kel Rowe

Round Four of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition was dominated by home turf victories, with just three matches played out across the weekend, and all visiting teams sent home without the chocolates.

Werribee Centrals def Suns
Werribee Centrals 4.6-30 to Suns 3.3-21  |  Werribee Centrals won by 9 points

Friday night saw a contested clash play out between Werribee Centrals and Suns, with the Centurions overcoming their visitors for a nine-point win. The match marked a particularly special double ton milestone for the Suns — teammates Tegan McHamilton and Keshena Kinkaid each celebrating 100 games.

An evenly matched opening half saw scores tied at both quarter time and halftime before the Suns took a two-point advantage into the last. However, it was the home side who had more in the tank to remain undefeated.

Centurions Julia Nash and Keely Spiteri starred for the home side, whilst Keshena Kinkaid and Aluk Kuol were named in the for the Suns.

Wyndhamvale def Laverton
Wyndhamvale 9.3-57 to Laverton 4.6-30  |  Wyndhamvale won by 27 points

On Saturday morning it was the battle of the birds when the Wyndhamvale Falcons and Laverton Magpies met for the first time this season, with the hosts running out 27-point victors.

A slow start cost Laverton, trailing Wyndhamvale by four goals at the quarter-time break. The Magpies bounced back after the break, narrowing the scoreline to a kick, but it was a strong finish from the home side saw the Falcons claim the win by the final siren.

Maddison Das and Mia Bolitho-Williams impressed for the visiting Magpies, but it was work of the dangerous Falcons forwards inside 50 who helped their side to victory — Carla Harrison in a best on performance kicked two majors and Larissa Renaut kicked a game-high four majors.

Parkside Spurs def West Footscray
Parkside Spurs 18.11-119 to West Footscray 0.1-1  |  Parkside Spurs won by 118 points

To round out the weekend, West Footscray travelled down to the river to face off against ladder leaders Parkside, with the Spurs unrelenting in their dominance, running over the Roosters to secure a 118-point win.

Led by Nat Pearce and Taquila Angel, the Spurs midfield was influential in the victory —both hit the scoreboard and providing silver service to Aleisha Casley, who kicked a game-high six goals. Rooster’s Bo Crabtree and Emmy Hudson ran hard all day and were tireless in defence to be their side’s top performers.

The Parkside Spurs remain in top spot on the competition ladder, and along with Werribee Centrals, have now won 4 from 4. Casley’s haul and that of Larissa Renaut sees that pair tied at the pointy end of the goal kicker ladder, with each having 12 majors to their name.
