SHARKS’ GUTSY WIN, EAGLES TESTED

Point Cook Centrals gutsy 13-point win on the road against Newport showed their mettle as they held off a ferocious finish from the home side to earn win number four in 2019.
The Sharks were made to earn the win despite a strong start that saw them lead by 13 at the first break and 24 at half-time, as Newport has shown time and again that they are not a pushover.
The home side came alive after the restart and booted five majors to two, cutting the Sharks lead to just seven heading into the final quarter, setting up a tantalising finish.
Neither side disappointed as both were hard at the contest and ball and didn’t relinquish an inch. Point Cook were too good however, showing a touch more class going forward to secure the 11.6. (72) to 9.5. (59) win.
Kurt Mayne was voted best on ground for the visitors and it was easy to see why. Leading from the front, Mayne was strong overhead all day and helped will his side across the line.
He’ll look to repeat his performance in Round Eight when Point Cook Centrals face West Footscray while Newport head to Parkside.
Yarraville Seddon used a stout defensive performance in the fourth quarter to hold off North Footscray and earn a 13.16. (94) to 9.4. (58) victory.
The Eagles led at each break, but were consistently tested by the Devils, who were hot on the heels of the home side.
Despite trailing by just 10-points at three quarter time, North Footscray couldn’t get over the line and were held to just one behind in the fourth.
The Eagles proving too strong as four goals in the last term pushed the final margin out to 34-points.
Yarraville will host Wyndhamvale in a top of the table clash in Round 8 while the Devils will travel to face Manor Lakes.
Wyndhamvale cruised to a 24.13. (157) to 11.16. (82) win against West Footscray thanks in part to Liam Scarborough’s best on ground, three goal performance.
Joel Russell (five) and Nathan Bisset (four) were at their dominant best again in the 75-point win that keeps the Falcons undefeated.
Parkside ran riot against Manor Lakes and thumped the Storm to the tune of 92-points, making it Round 7’s biggest win.
