SHARKS RUN OVER ROADRUNNERS
By NICK BOYLAN
Big wins were the tale of the round, with all games being won by 49 points or more. Point Cook Centrals were impressive against North Sunshine, accounting for the Roadrunners by 87 points.
The Sharks’ run and carry was a factor from the onset, breezing through the corridor with elite foot skills and run to give their forwards every opportunity to score goals. Riley Colbert in particular was able to launch eye-catching runs, to help provide Tyler Huynh with 3 first quarter goals. The Roadrunners were left reeling, with the quarter-time margin at 44-points.
North Sunshine coach Brett Kennerley was dissatisfied with his team’s errors by foot, saying they were “spending the ball before taking ownership”, leading to numerous turnovers.
In the second term, the Roadrunners cleaned up their skills and looked for better options, rather than the outnumbered contests they were finding in the first term. However, their final ball forward was ruining work in the middle from Thomas Rendle, allowing Sharks players to impact contests due to slow delivery inside 50. Despite the North Sunshine fightback, they still trailed by 42 points at the half.
The second half belonged to the Sharks, with Brayden Razlog and Luke Henderson making things happen for Point Cook whilst keeping the scoreboard ticking over. While Josh Granger and the Roadrunners battled hard, the Sharks were ultimately too clean and quick with the ball, leading to a dominating win, featuring 6 goals for Liam Henderson.
In other results, Paul Cutajar-Milosev continued to star up forward kicking 8 goals in Braybrook’s 49-point win over Glen Orden. Next week Braybrook will test their mettle against the unbeaten Wyndham Suns, while the Hawks will look for a win in Tarneit.
The ladder-leading Suns were tested early by Laverton, but pulled away for a 68-point win, off the back of 7 goals from Steven Neralic. The Magpies will hope to get back on the winners list against Point Cook Centrals.
Tarneit secured a huge 72-point win over Sunshine Heights with John Zangari starring for the Titans. The Dragons will look to rebound against their rivals North Sunshine next week.
