SHARKS SPOIL BROOKERS, DRAGONS HOLD-OFF MAGPIES
By NICK BOYLAN
Braybrook were riding high after being the first team to take down the Wyndham Suns juggernaut, so interested onlookers at Pennell Reserve were eager to see how the Brookers would fare against Point Cook Centrals.
To the dismay of the home fans, it was the Sharks who had the early running, with their lightning pace and crisp ball movement giving Braybrook headaches from the first bounce.
Riley Colbert and Matthew Andrew were getting involved early, providing good service to Brayden Razlog.
Braybrook coach Jason Hamilton was furious with his team’s effort at quarter time, down by four goals. He reminded them to “forget about last week”, and that Point Cook were “more physical and they want the ball more; they believe in each other.”
Despite an improved effort from Braybrook after quarter time, 8 goals to zero in the third quarter blew the game open, with Razlog kicking 10 and the Sharks looking fierce in a 108-point win.
The Wyndham Suns were able to get back on the winner’s list after their first loss of the season, but had to earn it against Glen Orden. Ashley Burke ensured the Hawks led at the last change by 4 points, but Simon Nahyna and David Pinney helped the Suns get over the line by 8 points.
Glen Orden will hope to take their good form into their clash with Point Cook Centrals next week.
Tarneit showed their quality in North Sunshine, recording a 129-point win over the Roadrunners. John Zangari starred up forward with 11 goals for the Titans, along with Aaron Campbell and Jay Gorman, while Vinh Tran and Brenton Cooper battled hard for North Sunshine.
The Titans will be looking to knock over the ladder-leading Wyndham Suns next week, in what is an important game to shape the finals.
In an exciting clash in Laverton, Sunshine Heights were able to pull off a remarkable comeback to win by 6-points. Trailing the Magpies by 21-points at three-quarter time, the Dragons came home strong off the back of Matthew Gauci and James Ciarlo’s 4 goals to record a superb win.
Next week, Laverton will look to bounce back against North Sunshine, while Sunshine Heights will hope to continue their momentum at Braybrook.
