SPOTSWOOD INTO GRAND FINAL
By JESS MACKEY
Spotswood have earned themselves a spot in the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s Grand Final after a dominant 68-point victory over last year’s premiers Manor Lakes.
Despite kicking the first goal of the match, Manor Lakes were unable to carry any of that momentum through to the rest of the match. The Storm scored just one point in the final three quarters, while Spotswood had a total of 23 scoring opportunities for the match.
Spotswood had seven individual goal-kickers, including the league’s leading goal-scorer Caitlin Brennan. Lauren Dundon kicked two goals, and the forward pressure she applied was outstanding as always.
Manor Lakes have another chance to book a spot in the final game of the season, when they take on Caroline Springs in the Preliminary Final on Sunday at Pennell Reserve.
The Lakers took on Werribee Centrals in the First Semi Final on Sunday. The last time they met the margin was one-point in favour of the Lakers, so supporters were looking forward to an evenly poised match, however it was a largely one-sided affair.
Caroline Springs kept Centrals goalless for the first half and restricted them to one major in the third term.
Caitlin Pretty was sensational, booting six of her side’s 11 goals. Five other Caroline Springs forwards all got on the board kicking singles, really bringing home the win.
Next week’s Preliminary final between Manor Lakes and Caroline Springs will be watched very closely by Spotswood, and takes place on Sunday morning at Braybrook.
