SPOTSWOOD PREVAIL IN THRILLING ONE-POINT WIN

Last weeks Women in Sport Round of the VU Polytechnic Senior Women’s competition offered up three matches on a sunny Saturday morning.

Spotswood claimed a triumphant victory over West Footscray in a thrilling one-point win.

Spotswood led by 19 points at half-time, but West Footscray fought hard in the third quarter to bring the margin down to just 1 goal between them.

At the closing of the fourth quarter West Footscray had made a dynamite comeback with an equal number of goals to Spotswood, being taken down by just one extra behind in the end. 5.8(38 to 5.9(39).

Jemma Hay was lead goal-scorer for West Footscray, kicking three of their five goals. Her teammate Eliza Terrey had a stellar game, being named best on ground for her side.

Mia Graf for Spotswood was the best on ground for her team after a spectacular performance, helping to lead Spotswood to their victory.

Point Cook prevailed over Braybrook in a big 16.11(107) to 0.1(1) victory for the squad.

Braybrook fought well through the whole game, but it wasn’t enough to keep Point Cook at bay.

Zarinjay Stowers had a thrilling game and was named best on ground for Braybrook. Angel Pokora for Point Cook also showcased her skillsets in Round 5, securing herself best on ground as well.

Point Cook’s Emily Laidlaw found her way onto the bests list, kicking seven goals for her side.

Over in Division 1, Parkside Spurs claimed a 5.9(39) to 2.4(16) victory against Point Cook Centrals.

Parkside had secured a 20-point lead by halftime, with Point Cook Centrals (PCC) having put just one goal on the scoreboard.

Point Cook Centrals fought tooth and nail in the second half of the game to close the gap between them and Parkside, more than doubling their points on the scoreboard by the end of the third quarter.

PCC made sure to not let Parkside return too many goals in the second half either. However, Parkside’s lead proved too strong as they triumphed by 23 points.

Emily Evans (Point Cook Centrals) and Rita Ceravolo (Parkside) both played smashing games, each being named best on ground for their squads.
