SPOTSWOOD SET FOR SEASON OPENER

Spotswood coach Anthony Eames said he feels like a kid in a candy shop.

The season is less than two weeks away and Eames and his team are excited for the ball to be bounced in the TIV Division 1 Season launch game on April 9.

The Woodsman will take on the Warriors at Converse Oval under-lights in the season opener, marking 568 days since the last time a game would have been played in the WRFL.

Eames said he has missed the mateships of being around the footy club as well as the regularity of game week.

He said footy fans should expect a committed and hard running Spotswood in 2021.

Leading the list of new Spotswood recruits this season is former Carlton player Nick Graham.

The 26-year-old spent six years on the Blues list, playing 48 games at the top level.

Former Western Bulldogs premiership player Fletcher Roberts could also feature for Spotswood when not selected to play for Footscray in the VFL as will Reuben William.

For Spotswood Senior Women’s co-coach Ian Allan said the lead-up to Round 1 will be about building the confidence of his team.

“It is about conditioning the players and slowly building them up. We have quite a few new players to our team.”

Allan will be co-coaching the Women’s team with Western Bulldogs Hall of Famer Chris Grant.

The pair have coached Spotswood’s Under 15 and Under 18 Girls teams in the past five years, winning three premierships.

Allan and Grant take over from Theo Theodorou, who has coached the Senior Women’s team since its inception.

Spotswood will take on Point Cook Centrals in Round 1 of the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s competition on April 18.
