SPURS TAKE DOWN LAKERS, SUNS CONTINUE STRONG START

A Friday night match-up under lights between Werribee Centrals and Yarraville Seddon kicked off Round 5 of the St Vincent’s Private Hospital Werribee Senior Women’s Competition, with the Centurions claiming victory by 49 points.
Taylah Bloss and Lauren Fisher starred for the winners, and 2023 leading goal kicker Larissa Renaut continued her campaign for back-to-back honours, kicking two for the home side.
Ruby Cashmore and Maggie Logan were named amongst the best for the Eagles.
Saturday morning saw the Parkside Spurs execute a two-point upset of last year’s Division 1 runner-up Caroline Springs. A water-logged game kept the contest low scoring, but a goal in the last quarter sealed the win for the visitors.
Rita Ceravolo and Aleisha Casley were amongst the best for the Spurs, while Lakers Ashlee Wallis and Dijana Vasilevska were their side’s top performers.
The match also saw Caroline Springs veteran Alisha Fowler celebrate her 100th game for the club.
Meanhwhile, Wyndhamvale travelled to Dempster Park and overcame North Sunshine by 92 points.
Brooke Halley and Ash Krajinovic were solid performers for the home side, but were unable to contain the Falcons who were aided by strong outings from Angel Noone and Harmoni Fonua and seven goals from Kellee McIntosh.
To round out the weekend’s fixtures, West Footscray welcomed Suns to Shorten Reserve, for their annual Jan Hindson Memorial Game. The Suns proved too strong for the Roosters, coming away with an 83-point victory at the final siren.
A dominant Suns forward line was led by Mandy Seath (five goals) with good support coming around the ground in the form of ruck Akima Manoah.
Amber Thompson and Sian Sewell featured amongst the best for West Footscray.
