SUNS AND RAMS POST FIRST WINS OF SEASON

Two weeks into the Division 2 Senior Men’s season and Albanvale remains on top of the ladder after easing to their second win of the campaign.

At home for the first time in 2025 and up against Sunshine Heights the Cobras used a 12-goal opening half to come away with a 19.14 (128) to 12.7 (79) victory in Round 2.

The home team extended their lead at every change in the 49-point win and at the end of two rounds sit atop of the standings with an early percentage of 328.57.

Veteran Matthew Tayor had another good day in attack booting six majors to take his tally to 10 goals through the first two weeks of the season while Corey Field was also damaging.

Sunshine Heights recruits Jackson Viola fired for the first time for his new club kicking a team-high four goals for the Dragons.

Western Rams posted their first win of the season recording a 25.10 (160) to 6.10 (46) victory over Tarneit at Ian Cowie Recreation Reserve.

The Rams had seven multiple goal kickers and 10 total goal kickers in their first outing at home with Connor Korras and best on ground Jared Scott both kicking five.

Kade Goricanec lead Tarneit with three majors while Micheal Naawi was their best player.

Suns also opened their account for the year with a 47-point win away to Laverton.

The visitors skipped out to an early 33-point lead thanks to five opening quarter goals while the Magpies only managed a single behind.

With Matthew Wright again outstanding and multiple avenues to goal the Suns stretched their advantage over quarters two and three before triumphing 16.11 (107) to 8.12 (60).

James Sadler and Alex Grigg were again two of the top performers for Laverton.

Wyndhamavle backed up their opening round win by defeating another finals hopeful in North Footscray by 39 points.

The Falcons smothered the Devils in the opening half with the hosts establishing a 38-point lead at the main break after the visitors were limited to a score of 1.3 in the first two terms.

With just 12 goals kicked over quarters one to three, the game opened up in the fourth with 11 goals scored.

The Devils took the final quarter honours with six majors to Wyndhamvale’s five, but it mattered little with the final score favouring the hosts 14.14 (98) to 9.5 (59).

Connor Yeoll made an immediate impact in his first senior match of the season while Damon Stephens and youngster Brock Jones were also amongst the best for the Falcons.

West Foostcray also moved to 2-0 thanks to a 22.8 (140) to 14.11 (95) win over Braybrook.

After conceding seven goals in the opening quarter in Round 1 the Brookers again allowed their opponents to get an early jump with the Roosters piling on nine first term goals.

Down by 48 points at the first change the hosts hit back in the second, reducing the margin to 14 points at the main break.

However, the visitors responded after resumption with West Footscray restoring a comfortable lead in the third before locking up the result in the last.

Thomas Stelluto followed up his five goals in Round 1 with seven majors against the Brookers, while Sunbury recruit Jack Vivian bagged six for Braybrook.
