SUNS WIN AFTER THE SIREN

Every kid dreams of kicking a goal after the siren to win the game. Todd Lawrie made that dream a reality on Saturday.

With scores level with 25 seconds remaining in the Alan Mance Motors Division 3 match between the Wyndham Suns and Braybrook, Lawrie, earned a free kick.

Standing 40m out on the boundary line, Lawrie needed to kick a behind or goal to win the match for the Suns and to keep their undefeated status intact.

The two-time Ron and Thelma Angwin medallist kicked truly, kicking a goal after the siren to win a famous match for the Suns.

It is a disappointing result for Braybrook, who led at every break, couldn’t hold on to score an upset victory.

Dean Cachia continued to cause havoc for defenders, the competition leading goal kicker bagged six goals in the victory.

Braybrook will now look to bounce back from the loss when they take on North Sunshine on Saturday. For the Suns, they will look to make it seven straight wins when they host Tarneit.

Albanvale marked its return to football with a bang, defeating North Sunshine by 149-points.

The Cobras kicked 31 goals in their big win, with Daniel Bartolo leading the way with the seven majors. Nathan Calleja also kicked five goals.

Daniel Backus was named best on ground in the victory.

In the final game of the round, Sunshine Heights defeated Tarneit 11.5. (71) to 8.4. (52) at Wootten Road Reserve.

The Titans led by a point at three-quarter time, but only managed to score one goal in the final term. The Dragons finished strongly, kicking four goals and running out 19-point winners.

Ricky Howell kicked three goals in a best on ground performance.

The Dragons will next take on Laverton, who had the bye at the weekend.
