SUNSHINE HEIGHTS PREVAIL IN ROUND 9
Sunshine Heights have defeated West Footscray in a close 9-point victory in Round 9 of the Rookie Me Division 3 competition to further cement themselves in the top three.
After a disappointing first quarter that saw West Footscray score three goals to Sunshine Heights’ zero, the Dragons came back with something to prove and kicked five majors in their second quarter to the Roosters one, pulling themselves into a ten-point lead going into halftime.
West Footscray fought hard to get their lead back, but it was Sunshine Heights who ran away with the win, consistently outscoring the Roosters at every turn.
Luke Vella had a large part to play in the Dragons win after an incredible best on ground performance. Kyall Parker and Giovanni Raffaele were the lead scorers for Sunshine Heights both bagging two goals for their side.
For West Footscray it was Michael Oddie whose performance stood out, earning himself the best on ground title for his team after an incredible match. His teammates Hayden Bray and Thomas Stelluto were their teams lead scorers also with two goals apiece.
Over at TIV Oval, it was home ground favourites Laverton Magpies who took the win against North Sunshine in windy conditions. Laverton managed a 75-point victory over the Roadrunners in a big 16.27.123 to 7.6.48 performance.
North Sunshine as usual fought hard to keep themselves in the game, the side showed off excellent kicking accuracy in their second highest score for the season. However, Laverton proved too strong yet again, outscoring the Roadrunners every chance they got.
The Magpies had nine individual goal scorers, with their round 9 best on ground Soni Rainbow leading the charge with five goals for his side. Kevin Nasra was the lead scorer for North Sunshine after bagging two majors, with teammate Mathew Doherty being named best on ground after an incredible performance on field.
North Sunshine have a tough week ahead, facing the top of the table Suns at home on Saturday.
The Suns have once again proved their premiership credentials, defeating Tarneit 13.27 (105) to 5.5 (35) over the weekend.
Michael Naawi had a stunning game for Tarneit, more than earning his best on ground title for that game. It was Blake Jago for the Suns who had the best on ground performance for his team, also kicking one of his teams thirteen goals.
