SUNSHINE HEIGHTS TAKE DOWN THE TOP OF THE TABLE
Sunshine Heights have taken out top of the ladder team the Suns in an epic Division 3 battle in Round 7. The 11.8 (74) to 8.3 (51) victory comes off the back of the Suns hot streak, having not lost a single game this season until now.
The game was tight in the first half, with Sunshine Heights inching their way to a 7-point lead by the close of the second quarter. The Suns fought hard to remain in the game, however Sunshine Heights proved too strong, coming out of the gate in the second half to kick six goals to the Suns four.
Sunshine Heights gun Kyall Parker had another great game this round, kicking eight of his teams’ goals in a best on ground performance.
The Suns have a bye this weekend, with Sunshine Heights playing away against Albanvale in what is gearing up to be a battle for the number one spot on the ladder.
Albanvale have taken another win for their season after a massive 19.13 (127) to 7.4 (46) victory against Laverton Magpies.
Laverton battled gallantly to keep themselves in the fight after a disappointing first quarter that left them down by 30 points, however Albanvale were too strong, outscoring the Magpies at every turn.
Albanvale had nine individual goal scorers for the game, with Matthew Taylor leading the charge and scoring five for his team and landing himself the title of best on ground for Albvanvale.
Sam Zuzaka was the leading scorer for Laverton with two goals and teammate Ben Matthews secured himself as best on ground for the team after a standout performance on field.
West Footscray have secured themselves a third win of the season, helping to keep themselves in the top four after Round 7. The Roosters beat out North Sunshine in a 2.4 (16) to 20.18 (138) victory.
North Sunshine played hard the whole game and remained consistent on the ball, however West Footscray were too strong for the team, coming out of the gate in the first quarter to kick eight goals and secure a 49-point lead.
North Sunshine defended well though, only allowing West Footscray nine points in the second quarter, being careful not to repeat the first. However, it wasn’t enough as West Footscray came back in the second half to kick eleven goals to North Sunshine’s two.
Joshua Webster was named best on ground for the Roadrunners after an incredible performance for his side. Over at West Footscray, Kalley Roberts stunned with an incredible match, being named best on ground for his side.
Honourable mention goes to Thomas Stelluto for West Footscray who scored an astonishing ten goals for his squad, helping to ensure their massive victory.
