TITANS SET GOALS FOR NEW SEASON

CONTINUING to develop the Senior Women’s team in a fun and safe environment is the goal for Tarneit in 2018, according to new President Mark Unwin.

The Titans were one of four WRFL teams to compete in the WRFL/EDFL Senior Women’s competition this year.

The club is hopeful of winning more games in the WRFL’s standalone Senior Women’s competition next year, but Unwin says the main focus for the team is to enjoy playing footy.

“We’ve impressed on the women that as a young club we have a lot of development to do from a fitness and skills perspective,” he said.

“As a club we want to improve on the number of games we won last year and be more competitive, but at the same time we want them to enjoy their football which is the most important thing for us.”

Unwin said the team was excited to take the next step in their development and were already looking forward to getting the season underway.

“As a club we’re extremely excited to be able to participate in a standalone competition and seeing the girls taken on our local rivals,” he said.

“We see a massive importance in the development of women’s football and are currently working on several programs to help support the growth and participation of females within our community.”

The club has been able to retain all of its players from this season and has re-appointed Jason Delaney as head coach.

The team began its pre-season at the start of November, following a successful Come and Try Day.

“The come and try day provided local women and girls the opportunity to come and see what women’s football is all about and learn some foundation skills as well,” Unwin said.

“We’ve had steady numbers well up from last year for pre-season and look forward to welcoming more female players to the club over the coming months.”

Pre-season training will continue up until Christmas and will re-commence in the new year. A series of practice matches are also being planned.
