TIV UNDER 18 SEASON HITS POINTY END
By SAM RICHARDS
Under spring-like conditions, the regular season of the 2018 TIV Under 18’s Division 1 competition wrapped up this weekend with a powerhouse continuing to stake their claim as the premier team of the league.
Although the Districts 1 produced an impressive two goal first quarter lead, the might of the Vikings was ultimately again too strong, with Altona winning 10.7. (67) to 7.2. (44) – despite providing two goalless quarters.
For the winners, Silver Yousif kicked 3 goals, while Lars Vidovic and Luke Whatman performed strongly.
Meanwhile, Caroline Springs regained some much-needed form, claiming their first victory in five games with a 14.15. (99) to 4.8. (32) win over Flemington Juniors.
Lucas Blackman (3 goals) played his strongest game to date, while Shareef Arara was impressive.
In the final game of Round 5, a six-goal last quarter surge was enough to get Hoppers Crossing 1 home against a feisty Yarraville Seddon Eagles outfit, 11.12. (78) to 6.5. (41).
Khaled Saoud had numerous important moments when the game was on the line, while the Warriors had an even spread of goalkickers, with four players kicking two goals.
To the elimination finals in Division 2 and a strong second quarter catapulted a resilient Spotswood side over a fast-starting Sunshine on Saturday.
After conceding the first two goals of the game, the Woodsman kicked five unanswered second quarter goals, led by Abdul El Houli (2 goals), Cameron Rains (2 goals) and Jacob Oakes (2 goals).
Meanwhile, a dominant first-quarter effort has seen Werribee Districts claim an impressive 29-point victory over St Albans.
For the winners, Alberto Rappazzo was electrifying kicking five goals and setting up countless others, including Nathan Griffiths, who kicked four majors himself.
For the Saints, Joseph Vella kicked three goals.
Werribee Districts 2 now plays Sunshine, while Spotswood face a rested Point Cook.
