TOP TEAMS FIRE IN RAMS DIVISION 1

Andrew Panayi’s four majors led the way for the Werribee Districts as they cruised to a 45-point win against St. Albans, putting them on top of the RAMS Division 1 ladder after three rounds.

Ten goals to three in the first half all but sealed the victory for Werribee early on, as they allowed a total of five goals through three quarters.

The top of the ladder Districts led at each break in the 15.11. (101) to 8.8. (56) victory.

St. Albans were stymied all day and couldn’t get a rhythm going forward. Ben Brennan, Ajdin Elkasovic and Jack Sims all booted two goals each for the Saints, but it wasn’t enough as they slumped to seventh on the ladder.

An away trip to Wyndhamvale awaits the Saints in Round 4 while the Districts will look for its fourth straight win against Caroline Springs.

Patrick Rose booted six goals in Altona’s 55-point win against Sunshine, kicking away in the final term with six goals to one.

The 15.11. (101) to 6.1. 0(46) win confirms the Vikings as premiership contenders, a match-up against Albion awaits them in Round 4.

Six goals to two in the second half helped Hoppers Crossing keep Caroline Springs at bay as they ran out 12.16. (88) to 5.9. (39) winners.

The Warriors also led at each break, but showed its class late with three goals in both the third and fourth quarters to seal the win.

Jordan Cook and Ash Brown kicked three goals each in the win, while Chris Endres was best on ground.

The 49-point victory is the Warriors second on the year, a number they’ll look to increase when they face Spotswood this week.

The Woodsmen caused the upset of the round with a hard fought four-point win over last year’s premiers Deer Park.

Defence was at a premium in the match-up as there was just 11 goals booted combined, but it was a late Spotswood goal that sealed the win.

The loss puts the Lions at 1-2 through three rounds, Spotswood now sitting third on the ladder following the 7.10. (52) to 6.12. (48) triumph.

Deer Park will host Sunshine in search of their second win in Round Four. It will be a Grand Final re-match.

Albion booted 12 goals over the second and third quarters to defeat Wyndhamvale 19.10. (124) to 10.11. (71), as they sit just percentage points outside the top four.

James Thompson booted four majors for the Cats who showed their firepower after the break and ran out 53-point victors.

The Falcons third loss keeps them anchored to the bottom of the ladder after three games.
