TOP TWO SET TO BATTLE

With just two rounds of the Victoria University Polytechnic Senior Women’s Competition to go, Round 14 saw teams in both divisions build their momentum towards finals.
As a feature of their club-wide celebration of women’s footy during the competition split round, the Caroline Springs’ Division 2 team registered a comprehensive 135-point win over visitors North Sunshine.
Jasmine Kinkaid kicked seven goals for the Lakers and Jessica Wood was rewarded for effort with time in the best.
On Friday night, Point Cook hosted Wyndhamvale, with the Falcons all but confirming their finals spot with a 47-point win over the Bulldogs. Despite the defensive pressure of Point Cook, the Falcons fired, with Madeleine Yung and Patricia Popplewell, both kicking 2 goals for the visiting side.
Saturday saw Laverton play their final home game for the season against West Footscray, with the Roosters running over the top of the Magpies by 133-points.
Emily Gillespie made a play for Division 2 leading goal-kicker with a total of 8 goals. Her teammate Layla Dawkins also shone in the middle for the Roosters.
Magpie Steph Hartnup celebrated her 50 games milestone while teammate Katherine Coulston was best on.
In Division 1 the Yarraville Seddon Eagles orchestrated an 82-point defeat of Hoppers Crossing. It was their third win of the season.
Alana Porter impressed for the Eagles, kicking five goals, while Jacqueline McClurg, who was also celebrating her 50th game, was prolific for the home side.
To round out the weekend, Werribee Centrals went head-to-head with Division 1 ladder-leaders Caroline Springs, with the Lakers claiming a 21-point win.
The Lakers led at every change, scoring their 12th win of the 2022 season.
Stephanie Asciak and Hayley Herring were named in the best for their performances.
Caroline Springs will take on Spotswood in a top-of-the-table clash in Round 14. The Lakers have won both their clashes this season.
