Umpire Training

All umpires are encouraged to train with the umpiring group as it develops great camaraderie and provides support to achieve your best. The WFNL provides multiple training venues to allow for all umpires to be involved.

Coaching sessions are also held on specific nights throughout the season. At these sessions coaches will work through rules, interpretations and skills required for umpiring.

The main umpire training is held at Hanmer Reserve (Harris Street, Yarraville). Umpire Academies for newer umpires are also located in Werribee, Point Cook and Hoppers Crossing.

Training Locations

Hanmer Reserve (Harris Street, Yarraville)

From March 18, 2025 umpire training will take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5.45pm at Hanmer Reserve

Pre-season training at Hanmer Reserve is held on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5.45pm.

Hanmer Reserve is also the home of the league’s Umpires Association club rooms, where food and drinks are available for purchase pre and post training.

 

Academy Training Locations

Werribee (MacKillop College, Russell Street, Werribee)

Umpire Academy sessions are held at Mackillop College, Werribee on Monday afternoons from 4pm-5pm, from March 3 until July 28, 2025. These training sessions are targeted towards beginner umpires.

 

Point Cook (Saltwater Reserve, Point Cook)

Umpire Academy sessions are held at Point Cook on Monday afternoons from 4pm-5pm, from March 3 until July 28, 2025. These training sessions are targeted towards beginner umpires.

 

Hoppers Crossing (Hogans Road Reserve, Hoppers Crossing)

Umpire Academy sessions are held at Hoppers Crossing on Monday afternoons from 4pm-5pm, from March 3 until July 28, 2025. These training sessions are targeted towards beginner umpires.

 

Hanmer Reserve (Harris Street, Yarraville)

Umpire Academy sessions are held at Yarraville on Monday afternoons from 4pm-5pm, from March 3 until July 28, 2025. These training sessions are targeted towards beginner umpires.

 

Coaching Sessions

A range of coaching sessions are held every week. At these sessions coaches will take you through rules, interpretations and skills you require to umpire on the weekend. A Season Planner is published in advanced so umpires can plan their nights.
