VIKINGS CONQUER WOODSMAN

After a tight tussle all afternoon, it was Altona who came out on top in a see-sawing RAMS Division 1 match on Saturday.

A small margin separated the two contenders for much of the day, with the Vikings leading by just two-points heading into the fourth quarter.

Led by Tom Mundy who kicked four goals and Jayden Post who was a pillar in defence, Altona managed to hold off the Woodsman in the dying stages, winning by 10-points.

Steve Kennedy and Josh Rafferty also played well for the Vikings, while captain David Iaccarino was Spotswood’s best.

The win was Altona’ second, putting them in fifth position on the ladder after three rounds.

Meanwhile, St Albans scored its second win of the season after defeating Caroline Springs by 15-points at Town Centre Oval.

The Lakers came out firing in the first quarter, leading by 25-points at the first break. However, that lead was pegged back in the second term with the Saints kicking six goals to one to head into half time two points ahead.

Ben Said bagged five goals in the victory. Shylo Smith was also outstanding for St Albans.

Keenan O’Shea and Stephen Brewer were among the best for Caroline Springs.

Sunshine kicked 13 goals to Point Cook’s three after quarter time to score its first win of 2019.

The Kangaroos defeated the Bulldogs 18.9. (117) to 6.11. (47).

Daniel Castellano led the way for the visitors, kicking five goals. Daniel Glowacki and Harrison Minett also played well.

Back on Anzac Day, Hoppers Crossing kicked eight goals straight in the final term to run over the top of rivals Werribee Districts.

Daniel Riosa continued his hot start to the season, kicking four goals in the victory. Three of those goals came in the last quarter. Nick Buykx was Werribee Districts best.

The Warriors will look to make it three wins in a row, when they take on Spotswood at Hogans Road Reserve on Saturday. It will be their first home game of 2019.

In the final game of the round, Deer Park defeated Albion. Jase Perkins kicked 10 goals in the victory.
