VU WRFL NETBALL RESULTS – ROUND 7

Lakers Gold scored its fourth win of the Victoria University WRFL Netball Division 1 competition on Friday night, defeating Braybrook Black by four goals.

It was an incredibly close match, with scores tied at half time. Just two goals separated the two teams heading into what was a thrilling final quarter.

Lakers Gold edged ahead of their opponents, scoring 11 goals to nine in the last quarter to win 34-30.

Jaimee Smith and Olivia Craske, both playing in their first game for the Lakers, starred in the goal ring, each shooting 17 goals.

For Braybrook, Krystelle Rush shot 21 of her team’s 30 goals.

The win keeps the Lakers finals hopes still well and truly alive, now sitting in fifth place on the Division 1 ladder. Only percentage separates themselves from Point Cook Centrals Great White Sharks.

Ladder-leaders, Point Cook Centrals Sharks defeated Manor Lakes Storm 61-39.

The Sharks are the best attacking team in the competition and proved that on Friday, shooting 18 goals in the final quarter to run over the top of the Storm.

Rebecca Hicks was again formidable in the goal ring, shooting 50 goals.

Hicks has now shot 265 goals across seven games, 44 more than the next best shooter, Spotswood Gold’s Kimberly Phillips.

In the final game of Round 7, Spotswood Gold defeated Point Cook Centrals 55-43.

The win keeps Spotswood in second spot on the ladder as we head into the first bye of the season, thanks to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

Round 8 of the Netball competition will return on Friday, June 17.
