WARRIORS END LAKERS WINNING STREAK

By LEO MULLALY

Hoppers Crossing outclassed an in-form Caroline Springs side by 24-points at Taylors Run Oval in the Division 1 Under 18 Competition.

Warriors key forward Bailey Moffatt was electric early, outmuscling his opponent on multiple occasions to open his account with three early goals.

After going scoreless in the first quarter, Caroline Springs coach Charles Grech urged his men to be stronger at the contest and for his forwards to restrict any Hoppers Crossing intercepts by positioning themselves in front of their direct opponent.

In response the Lakers lifted their intensity and managed to win the second quarter with two goals to one.

The contest tightened in the third term, with both sides holding firm defensively.

It took a running goal from 50 metres from Mohammed Melhem right before three quarter time to life the visitors going into the last term.

At three quarter time, Hoppers Crossing coach Shane Buckingham called for a lift in tackling pressure, as well as more precise and controlled ball movement.

His team responded, kicking the only two goals in the quarter and dominating field position.

Christopher Dounas was a strong contributor for the Warriors, with his courage on display in multiple occasions.

For the Lakers, Damon Cardona and Harley Tanti were admirable performers in defeat.

Elsewhere, Districts were too good for Spotswood by 20-points, and Point Cook dominated Altona by 51-points.

Hoppers Crossing will enjoy their week off next week, while the Lakers will be looking to rebound in strong fashion against Spotswood.

The Eagles face an in-form Point Cook outfit, while the Vikings have an important clash against Werribee Districts.
