WARRIORS UPSET VIKINGS IN FINAL ROUND
HOPPERS Crossing upset ladder-leaders, Altona, in the final round of the TIV Under 19 competition.
The Warriors, fresh from having the bye the previous week, defeated the Vikings by 15-points at JK Grant Reserve.
Altona led at quarter time, but it was all Hoppers Crossing thereafter, they kicked eight goals to five in the remaining three quarters to win the match.
The final score was 9.8. (62) to 7.5. (47). Ezzat Haddara kicked three goals in the win, while Radwan Haddara also kicked two goals. Kyle Bistisi was best on ground.
Despite the loss, Altona finished the season in first place and have earned the first week off finals. The Vikings have won 13 of their 15 matches this season and have been the most attacking team of the competition.
They also have the strongest defence, having only given away 478 points across all their home and away matches.
For the Warriors, the win will be a great confidence booster heading into their qualifying final against Caroline Springs.
The last time the two sides met was back in Round 16, with the Lakers winning that match by 10-points.
Werribee Districts will go head-to-head with Point Cook for the second consecutive week. They two teams played off in Round 18 and will play-off in the Elimination Final on Sunday.
The Tigers won by 141-points in the final round. They kept their opponents scoreless in the first quarter. They also piled on six goals.
Werribee’s final quarter was the most damaging, having kicked eight goals to zero.
The Tigers had 11 different goal kickers, Darcy Phillips, Ryan Potter and Connor Mcintosh all kicked three goals in the win. Patrick Farley was Point Cook’s only goal kicker. Both Werribee Districts and Point Cook will play-off in Sunday’s final at Avalon Airport Oval in Werribee.
