WEST FOOTSCRAY SPREAD THEIR WINGS
The WRFL Rookie Me Division 3 competition is no stranger to tough battles and the Round 8 clash between West Footscray and Laverton Magpies this past weekend was nothing short of tough.
West Footscray have further solidified their position in the top four of the ladder after defeating Laverton in a thrilling 13.13 (91) to 10.12 (72) victory.
The game remained relatively close throughout the first half, with the Roosters up by just eleven points going into the second. However, West Footscray came out of the gate hungry for the win in the third quarter, leaving with a 29-point lead at the end.
Laverton fought hard in the fourth to fight for the lead, even outperforming the Roosters with eight scoring shots to West Footscray’s three. However, some inaccurate kicking meant it just wasn’t enough to close that gap.
The Roosters had eight goal scorers for the team, with Thomas Stelluto paving the way for his team with four. Michael Oddie was the standout performance on the field for West Footscray, earning himself best on ground after a stellar game.
Albanvale has taken out the number one spot on the ladder after a successful game against Sunshine Heights in Round 8. The Cobras secured a big 14.16 (100) to 4.10 (34) victory over their opponents to take the number one spot from the Suns.
Sunshine Heights were determined to get the win coming into the second half after a rough start to the game that saw them 52-points behind going into the third quarter. The Dragons proved to be the hungrier team in the third, outscoring Albanvale by six points.
However, the Cobras weren’t backing down, and with the help of the lead they set up in the first half they came back in the fourth to smash four goals to Sunshine Heights’ one.
There were eight goal scorers for Albanvale in their 66-point win, with Ostinn Bellingham and Nathan Johnson leading the charge with three goals a piece. Bellingham had the game of the day with an impeccable best on ground performance.
Giovanni Raffaele was the lead goal-scorer for Sunshine Heights, scoring two of his teams’ four goals.
Tarneit have prevailed over North Sunshine in a massive 32.18 (210) to 7.8 (50) Round 8 victory.
North Sunshine got off to a shaky start with just one point in the first quarter, but the roadrunners fought hard all game, having the best match of their 2023 season thus far.
Unfortunately for the side it just wasn’t enough to keep Tarneit at bay, with the Titans almost doubling their own score in the fourth quarter, kicking thirteen of their 32 goals.
Brayden May and Jonathon Proud were at the top of the scoreboard, kicking six goals each for Tarneit, with Brayden May taking the title of best on ground after a smashing game for his team.
Kevin Nasra was named best on ground for North Sunshine after a ripper game on field, kicking four of his teams seven goals, helping to bring them to their highest score of the season.
