WFNL BECOMES WOMEN & GIRLS CHARTERED LEAGUE

The Western Football Netball League is delighted to officially be recognised as a Women and Girls Chartered League.

The Women and Girls Community Football Charter is a commitment from community football leagues, regions, umpire groups, clubs and associations to work towards making football club environments welcoming, safe and inclusive for women and girls.

This charter sets out the expectation that associations will champion women and girls guided by four principles; opportunity, visibility, access and, investment.

Club Development Lead for the WFNL, Andrew Shenker said this recognition highlights the league’s commitment to gender equality in sport.

“The Western Football Netball League has recently achieved a significant milestone by becoming a Women and Girls Chartered League,” he said.

“This status reflects the league’s dedication to fostering inclusive, safe, and supportive environments for women and girls in community football.

“On achieving this status with the Women and Girls Community Football Charter, the WFNL commits to enhancing opportunities, visibility, access, and investment in women’s and girls’ football.

“This initiative underscores the league’s ongoing efforts to promote gender equity and empower female athletes in Melbourne’s western suburbs.”

We encourage all WFNL clubs to embark on the steps towards becoming a signatory to the Women and Girls Charter, so we can all work together to ensure our community football environments are welcoming, safe, and inclusive for women and girls.

Being recognised as a Women and Girls Chartered Club comes with a number of benefits including; correspondence on women and girls’ initiatives, grants, and opportunities and favourable consideration for AFL-based funding initiatives.
